Q. Do I need to do anything special to set up a generator as a backup power supply for my home?
A. Yes. You need a qualified electrician to connect it to your breaker panel so it does not feed power into the system while power is being supplied from the utility company. The electrician should install synchronization controls that bypass the connection to the grid while the generator is in use. Improper installation can cause the potential for an explosion or other problems.
